Navaratri & Durga Puja

Navaratri traditions vary significantly across India and the Hindu world.

Worship of Devi

In many traditions, the nine nights are associated with different forms of Maa Durga. Devotees seek the blessings of the Divine Mother for strength, wisdom, protection and spiritual development.

In Gujarat and neighbouring communities, Navaratri is famous for Garba and Dandiya Raas.

In Bengal and other eastern regions, Durga Puja is one of the year's most important celebrations. Magnificent representations of Maa Durga commemorate her victory over Mahishasura.

Other regions preserve their own traditions, including Golu displays in parts of South India.

These different celebrations express a shared recognition of Shakti — Divine Power — as fundamental to existence.
