Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesha is easily recognised by his elephant head and is among the most widely worshipped deities in Hindu Dharma.

Before beginning important undertakings, studies, ceremonies or journeys, Hindus commonly seek Ganesha's blessings.

Celebration

Ganesh Chaturthi traditionally begins on Shukla Paksha Chaturthi during the month of Bhadrapada.

Devotees install and worship murtis of Ganesha at home, in mandirs and at community celebrations. Puja, bhajans, prayers and offerings are made during the festival.

Modak, a traditional sweet, is especially associated with Ganesha.

In traditions involving immersion, the festival concludes with Ganesh Visarjan, when the murti is respectfully carried for immersion.

Ganesha reminds devotees that overcoming obstacles requires not only strength but wisdom, patience and right understanding.
