Krishna Janmashtami

Janmashtami is traditionally observed on Krishna Paksha Ashtami during the month of Bhadrapada.

Birth of Krishna

According to Hindu tradition, Krishna was born in Mathura to Devaki and Vasudeva during the rule of King Kamsa.

His childhood stories, particularly those associated with Gokul and Vrindavan, occupy a beloved place in Hindu devotional traditions.

The Teachings of Krishna

Krishna's teachings to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita explore Dharma, karma, devotion, knowledge, disciplined action and the nature of the Self.

On Janmashtami, devotees may fast, sing bhajans, read sacred texts and perform puja. Many communities celebrate until midnight, traditionally associated with Krishna's birth.

Janmashtami combines celebration with a profound spiritual message: fulfil one's Dharma while directing one's actions towards the Divine.

Hare Krishna. Jai Shri Krishna.
